Few days back i was watching into the pre-game baseball playoff show for the ny yankees and philadelphia phillies earth series and i wasn’t surprised to hear the overuse of “you recognise! ” it’s only in the last few years that i’ve noticed how frequently it’s been over-utilized in consultations with renowned athletes.
Why is it when a renowned athlete is asked a question while being interviewed, they at all times reply somewhere in their answer with “you recognise. ” it doesn’t count which sport the athlete belong to, be it baseball, hockey, basketball and there’s probably others. . . They all say it. Is this a north american thing? I’ll let you recognise when i start to more pays attention to uk soccer players being interviewed.
Also, whether or not the spectators knew what an athlete was going to say then there would be no need for the consultation. Right? Maybe the athletes are tired of at all times having to reply to the same old questions from the reporters. Perchance, we the observing audience do recognise the replies from the athletes.
Infact, i find the use of this phrase in answers extremly annoying. I would like to see all athletes consultations not use this phrase in their replies or leastways limit it’s use to once. Like i said: “you recognise, whether or not i knew, then sports reporters wouldn’t be interviewing you in the first place! “
This term is like a illness amongst athletes and it seems being very contagious! More and more athletes are saying it. Its spread doesnot contained amongst athletes and it will spread speedily from sport to sport. How may we contain this verbal illness? It seems this illness is entirely unstoppable.
I noted the overuse of you recognise on twitter not long ago too, but let’s face it, with 140 characters you just can’t say much in a coherent manner on the twitter web site. Who could have thought that 140 characters would have made this web site so renowned and so talked regarding in the media and utilized by news channels. Imagine whether or not every comedian was forced to tell his or her joke in 140 characters! ! !
Let’s get back to those consultations amongst the reporters and a couple of star pitchers in this earth series. I was hearing to cc sabathia and cliff lee being interviewed. Both pitchers are exceedingly awful. Every one of them also uses “you know” frequently in their replies. Cc sabathia went absolutely overboard in his answers using this phrase such a good deal of, frequently, that i lost count in keeping track!
I think it would in truth be interesting to keep a tally of how galore “you knows” every athlete uses and come up with a per word count usage proportion! Who do you link would win? I think i will have to have retained a list of all the abusers of the phrase “you know” in their conversations with reporters. Perchance i will write a follow-up article in the near future with a list of renowned athletes who use this phrase the most.
In my sentiment, this article is a more humorous look at sport. Perchance i am making a lot regarding nothing, but then seinfeld was supposedly a comedy show regarding nothing and look. . . It turned regarding to be one of the sheer best and most successful comedy tv shows ever. We haven’t seen a show as good since it went off air.
